I’m REALLY into commas all of a sudden (well, under the influence of my editor Erin Shetron)!

Love a comma, even a semi-colon; still, my life looks like an Exclamation Point of Excessive Enthusiasm and Capitalization!

"Punctuation is everything," you say. Does that include capital letters? Because P.S. is usually capitalized, but you don't do that . . .

Oooh, you sent me to the internet! "Usage varies." But thanks to you, I will now capitalize. Thank you!

Great!. My first Google response was the following (note last sentence!): "PS" stands for the Latin phrase post scriptum, which literally translates to “after text”. Both "PS" and "P.S." are correct. The decision to add periods may depend on the style guide you follow, your audience, and ultimately, your own preferences. Periods or no periods, "PS" should always be capitalized.Oct 6, 2020

I LOVE people who aren't afraid of semi-colons. But personally, I'm partial to em-dashes.

I'm a little crazy when it comes to punctuation; I am strange in a way that I have to check even my text messages for grammar and punctuation.

Me too! It feels very reckless to send a text with a missing period and capital letter, which is something so many are more than happy to do!

Love this concept! Personally, I'm a fan of the em dash — so flexible and clean! Just visually all the yes.

Learning the punctuation as we speak! It differs from the Finnish way so I always throw my posts to ChatGPT for proof reading. And I'm always, ALWAYS, stunned by the results. Comma here, comma there. 😮‍💨😁

This video makes me so happy. In my last post, I shared a link from McSweeney's about the "top punctuation ratings," and several readers have contacted me this week to share their feelings about the semi-colon. Such a polarizing topic! I believe every type of punctuation has its place somewhere. I'm delighted to see that others share my passion. I have a big silly smile on my face right now. Thank you, Sarah!

I once worked in the development office of a prestigious liberal arts college. My job was to write the letters the college president sent to foundations, corporations, and major donors, requesting funding. If the college received five million dollars from the National Science Foundation, it was because I knew how to use a semicolon.

My skills have declined since then. Your book, “Pathological” (double quotation marks? Single? Why can’t I use links in replies on Notes?) is my new guidebook.

Punctuation is life.
