"the most successful Substack’s publish about 21 times a month." ?????

So that's every week day? That seems like a lot. Do you think they are referring to news/political Substacks, or all Substacks?

Don't panic, Kim. The top ten are all news, finance, culture, etc. You're okay.

Definitely possible it’s news/politics. I didn’t ask by topic breakdown. They said the top 10 publish 45 times a month but they have more than one writer. They also said all of the posts don’t have to be long. One could be an ask me anything or discussion thread. Another a short audio clip - I’m thinking of doing those on Monday’s to share what I’m thinking about for the week ahead. And then I have one that is links to what I’m reading and another a calendar. Add the podcast I’m launching and that’s quite a few posts a week already. I am taking it slow though as I’m worried about burning myself out!

Slow and steady. Good strategy. I think it's easy to burn out on here. Two of the people I subscribed to when I first got on here (with paid subscription) both ended up bowing out for a period of time. They both had young families and working other jobs outside of Substack and I couldn't figure out how they were pulling it all off. It wasn't a surprise when they wrote about their burnout and fatigue and taking time some time away. Your topics all intrigue me as I am a news junkie. I started my career at CBC News in Canada. At the time it was our first version of an all news network (a la CNN). I loved it and was able to speak to people from around the world. I look forward to reading your newsletter. I love the fact that it's global too. I'm from Canada and read way too much NYT. I can't get enough of really good journalism and feature stories.

Oh my goodness. Thank-you SO much for the shout out Sarah. I was in the middle of doing an interview today for one of my upcoming posts when I saw all these notifications popping into my computer about new subscribers. I didn't know what was happening, but found out later it was your feature! I am beyond excited to really get rolling with Life (un)Learned. With your help and guidance I am feeling much more confident. (Also, what a fantastic list of accomplished writers to be included with.)

Thank you Sarah for your keen insight, sharp mind, and encouraging words as well as folding me into your @Writers at Work world. It's been such a wonderful boost to The Camont Journals but more importantly to the writer I always wanted to be. To find myself at home in a strong and positive community of creative souls, both readers and writers, is a wonderful place to be on the internet. So excited to share what comes next with "Finding France."

"To find myself at home in a strong and positive community of creative souls, both readers and writers," well said Kate. I feel much the same way and so thankful to have found this space. Sarah is a big part of this!

Hi Sarah. I am about to sign a contract with a publisher who are launching my cosy crime novel next spring! It all started when I forced myself to write 2 chapters a week because I didn’t want to let my subscribers down. Out of that came a 75,000 word novel and a book deal with a publisher! My dream of becoming a published novelist all began right here on Substack.
