I don't understand what is meant by sustaining oneself, if not that without it one will desiccate and die. Why imputed to others ("ourselves")? The essay does not explain what this sustenance is and how there is any relationship between written expression and forestalling this wasting away.
Sarah Fay thank you for showcasing Ashley's beautiful Substack! It is very visually appealing and contains solid, excellent writing (I was lurking while reading this article!). I look forward to becoming a new subscriber.
Thank you so much for featuring The Deeper Call Sarah. I am truly grateful for your introduction to this piece as well. I feel so seen in my life and writing practice.
Thanks for sharing Sarah. It reminds me why I moved to Substack too. Not to pump out content, but to become a better writer. One of my teachers, https://substack.com/@professordouglasbrooks, has always said, "You are the company you keep, so keep good company." I am indeed in good company. I also have learned so much already from just one meeting with you, Sarah. Looking forward to the next.

I subscribed to Ashley. I was particularly interested in her breathing advice/tips.
As for Sarah, she is the best teacher/mentor I have ever had in any subject. Ever.
I want to become a better writer for many reasons. One of them is make Sarah proud.
I am drawn in! Her work is so lovely.
