Regarding cross-posts, how can one indicate that a post on Substack originated somewhere else? All the information I've found so far is for cross-posting things FROM Substack to Medium.

Hi!

I was thinking about doing a post with another newsletter. Is it possible to have it go out to both of our lists at the same time? Or would one have to publish first then the other cross post to theirs?

A fourth option, or a variation on the interview, is an edited email conversation. I've done this twice, once with David Roberts and once with Alison Acheson. Alison and I took our collaboration a step further by recording voiceovers, so it sounds like a live conversation (I spliced these segments together in Audacity). That's maybe a little involved for most people, but some of us like to get the words right as writers, and extemporaneous speaking isn't always the best way to do that. So exchanging a few emails, editing that exchange, and recording the voiceover can feel a little more polished.

Thank you, that is a helpful tip!

If you opt out of crossing posting and someone asks permission, do you have to enable it again for everyone in order to let that happen?

Sorry for the perhaps very obvious answer but initially, did you reach out via email - Or via substack channels ?

If through substack: how do we communicate directly with one another ?

No I am just asking a hypothetical questions - has not happened. But if we turn off cross-posting so someone cannot just take your post and re-post it - what happens when we do want to share that post? I am wondering how it would work.

Through Substack - I am pretty sure you can just hit reply to any newsletter post that you receive and that email goes to the Substack owner.

Ah yes! I hadn’t even thought of hitting reply in the emails we receive from our subscriptions or other creators.

Great idea!

I have really enjoyed letter exchanges, and I’m surprised that you didn’t mention them in your intro

I just turned off permission for others to cross-post my content. In theory, I'm not opposed to cross-posting. But something about enabling anyone to cross-post without asking feels uncomfortable to me. Sometimes (if I'm remembering correctly), when I've received cross-posts from substack writers, it's taken me a minute to realize that it wasn't written by them (but rather, they were sharing someone else's work with their list).

I guess I just have more questions, including:

When someone cross-posts, can they select to have your content appear on their substack website in addition to going to their email list?

Has anyone had negative experiences related to this function?

Really useful post. Thank you! I had no idea how to cross post and now I do. Hurrah!

Hi there ! I’ve only been on been on substack for just under 2 months - but I’m loving it !

I’m wondering how others have invited guest writers or collaborators to their publication ? Is there a tactful way to do so ?

Perhaps it’s as simple as emailing them via their website ? Is direct messaging an option here on substack? Thanks in advance :)
