It was a helpful and inspiring interview for us on the learning curve to be better writers and to learn how to connect with others through our writing and newsletters. I especially like Nancy's comment about the tendency of writers from academic backgrounds to work too hard at proving themselves. Sarah has helped me a lot with improving my Substack, About page, and making my articles briefer, more relatable, and less academic, though I'm still putting in too many endnotes. Thanks, Nancy, for sharing good ideas as I move forward with my new book.

“We talk about Nancy’s experience on Substack; how her book deal came about; a bit about her guest post “How My Newsletter Helped Me Land an Agent and a Big Five Book Deal” (which appeared on Jane Friedman’s website); and how to use Substack not only to create an author platform but also to become the best writers we can be, stretch ourselves, try new forms, and be part of traditional publishing and media as well.”
